These ducks live in freshwater lakes, streams, marshes and other flooded areas in the Sub-Saharan Africa and South America. The bicolor species can also be found in the Indian subcontinent, as well as Central America and the Southern U.S.
These birds feed on grains, seeds, crustaceans, mollusks, aquatic insects and plants.
The ducks here are a hybrid between two species of whistling ducks: the fulvous whistling duck (bicolor) and the white-faced whistling duck (viduata).
