There are three young goats born in April 2013, two male and one female, that reside year-round in the Zoo's A Step Into Africa Exhibit. The males, named Peter and Paul, are both brown, while the female, Sheila, is tan-and-white. The goats are on loan to the Zoo from a local farm in Spencerport.
International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List status: Least concern.
Domestic goats are found throughout the world in a variety of habitats. In some areas such as Australia they have become an invasive species. The range of the domestic goat’s wild ancestor, the wild goat, is in the Middle East in mountainous habitats.
