Party for the Planet!

Party for the Planet - April 19, 2014

Party for the Planet™, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ signature Earth Day celebration, includes family-friendly activities as well as touch table stations (run by our volunteer educators) at our elephant, penguin, otter, sturgeon, orangutan and rhino exhibits.

This year marks the centennial anniversary of passenger pigeons’ extinction. Visitors will receive a “passenger pigeon” passport (at a Welcome Station at the front of the Zoo) to get stamped at each station. Visitors will then return to the Welcome Station and turn in their stamped passport for an origami passenger pigeon to take home. This initiative is part of The Lost Bird Project, an arts-based environmental non-profit that connects people to Earth through art.

There will also be a face painting station during the event, with all proceeds supporting elephant and orangutan conservation through the International Elephant Foundation and Health in Harmony. Be sure to stop by!

A Go Green! Recycle Rally will also take place on this day.

When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: Free with Zoo admission

Go Green! Recycle Rally

Go Green! Recycle Rallies

Monroe County's Seneca Park Zoo is on the leading edge of recyclable collection in the community. Our Go Green! Recycle Rallies are just one aspect of the recycling efforts at the Zoo. (For other efforts please click here.)

Go Green! Recycle Rallies give members of the community the opportunity to recycle larger items such as televisions, computers, monitors, DVD players, microwaves and video game systems. The Zoo will also be collecting clothing, shoes and bicycles.

The Zoo does NOT accept air conditioners and household hazardous wastes such as paints, solvents and cleaners.
