The polar bear has an extremely well-developed sense of smell, being able to detect seals nearly one mile away and buried under three feet of snow!

The Zoo is open all year long. Closed the first Saturday in June for Zoobilation, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

GATE HOURS

  • January 1 to March 31: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. You may stay on grounds until 4 p.m.
  • April 1 to October 31: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You may stay on grounds until 5 p.m. (Zoo opens at 9:30 a.m. for Zoo members.)
  • November 1 to December 31: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. You may stay on grounds until 4 p.m.
