If your Scout troop is too small but you still would like to participate in an overnight or if you are just looking to make some new friends, you can join us for Big Scout Overnights! These are preset dates where you can come and share in an overnight experience with other Scouts from around the area. Expect to arrive at the Zoo by 5:15 p.m. We'll eat dinner, unload the gear, and let the fun begin! The evening is filled with activities, an Animal Presentation, a nocturnal tour of the Zoo, and more! We close the evening with a nighttime snack. In the morning, we tour the Zoo to see what happens before the Zoo even opens! We conclude at 9 a.m. with a visit to the ZooShop! Pre-registration is required 4 weeks prior to the date of the program.
How many people do I have to have and where do you sleep?
There is no minimum requirement for your troop/pack for Big Scout Overnights but you will be sharing with other scout groups. A minimum of 35 people total is required to hold this program. If this minimum number isn't met, you will be contacted to either reschedule for another date or be notified that the program will take place in another location. As long as the minimum number of participants is met, you will be guaranteed to be sleeping in the Rocky Coast building, where you can view the polar bears and sea lions.
What do I bring?
Participants should bring with them a sleeping bag, pillow, flashlight, and toiletries. It is also important to dress for the weather, as we will be outside for the tours. Most groups also bring their own breakfast (remember to bring any paper supplies you might need). Groups are also welcome to bring any additional snacks they might like.
Cost and deposits*
$25 per child; $20 per adult.
*A non-refundable deposit of $100 must be received within TWO WEEKS of booking your date.
*If the deposit is not received within two weeks, your spot in the program will be released.
*If you need to cancel, your deposit may be credited toward another date if space is available.
