Helpful Answers to Membership Questions

How long is my membership valid?

Your membership is valid for one full year and will expire at the end of the month it was purchased in. For renewals, a year is added on to the current expiration date.

How can I purchase or renew a Zoo membership?

We offer four easy options:

  1. Online: Complete information on our online membership system.
  2. By phone: Call the Member Office at (585) 336-7212 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to charge by phone.
  3. In person: At the Zoo’s Front Gate seven days a week, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. from April 1 to October 31, and 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. from November 1 to March 31. We will process your membership and give you a temporary card for free admission that day.

At what age do you charge admission for a child?

We charge admission for children age three and older. Children age two and younger are admitted free.

How old must I be to have a membership in my name?

You must be at least 18 years or older to have a membership in your name.  We do not issue memberships to children.

Can I purchase cards for my children?

Yes, if you have a membership that covers children you may purchase a personalized card, linked to the primary membership, for $5 each.  Children are considered age 18 and younger. Not available on Individual and Couple levels.

Can I add a child card or Caregiver to an Individual or Couple membership?

No. The Individual and Couple memberships do not cover children in any capacity.

How long will it take to receive my membership cards?

If you come to the Zoo, you will immediately receive temporary cards. If you submit your application online, in person, by mail or by phone, your permanent membership cards will be processed and mailed to you within one week.

How many cards will I receive?

The number of cards you receive is determined by the package you select, but no more than two.

Can I purchase member T-shirts?

Member T-shirts are for sale for only $10 each at the Zoo’s Front Gate, or by redeeming a voucher purchased when you join or renew.

Are member T-shirts available for free?

Two member T-shirts are included at the Penguin Circle package and above. Once we accept T-shirt delivery, they are available by redeeming a coupon sent with your permanent cards at the Zoo’s Front Gate.

Can I loan my membership card to a family member or friend?

No. Your membership card(s) and associated privileges are not transferable to any other family or individual. Your membership has a tremendous value. To protect the rights of our members, we will ask to see your photo ID, such as a driver’s license, at the time of your visit.

Any person not covered by their own membership will have to pay general admission, or they are welcome to purchase their own membership package. We appreciate your understanding.

What if I don’t have a second named adult for my membership?

If there is no second adult in your household, you are welcome to add another named adult who would use the membership instead. There is no option to add an unnamed guest in place of a named cardholder.

You can also just have yourself as the named member if you do not wish to have a second named adult. However, please note that there is no option to have an unnamed guest in place of a named cardholder.

Can I change the second named adult on my membership while it is active?

We ask that the named adults at the time of purchase remain the same throughout the membership’s annual term. If you wish to change the second name of the adult at the time of renewal, you are welcome to.

Can I purchase a gift of membership?

Yes. Any membership can be made a gift. For online purchases, click the “this is a gift” box. You will enter the buyer and recipient information and can choose where the member cards are to be mailed. For sales in person or over the phone, we will need the contact information for both the buyer and the recipient. The membership begins at the time of purchase and cards will be sent within one week.

If it is a renewal, one year will be added to the current expiration date. If you are unsure about the gift recipient’s member status, please call the office at (585) 336-7212 so we can check their record. Please note, all sales are final and memberships dues are nonrefundable once a purchase has been made.

How do I Renew my membership online?

There is no separate button to renew online. Simply click on the purchase button for the level you want, and we will match up your order with your current record in our database. If you have any changes to your membership upon renewing, it is helpful if you e-mail members@senecazoo.org with this information.

Can I use my membership at other zoos?

Yes. Check out the Zoo and Aquarium Discounts for a list of participating AZA zoos and aquariums for 50% off admission. We make every effort to keep our list current. These agreements are determined by the other establishment and can change at any time. We recommend that you call ahead to plan your visit with their latest information.

What do I do if I lose my membership card?

Report lost cards by calling the Member Office at (585) 336-7212 or stop at the Zoo’s Front Gate.

Are membership dues refundable or transferable?

No. Membership dues are neither refundable nor transferable.

Are membership dues tax-deductible?

Yes. The Internal Revenue Service has issued guidelines that affect the deductibility of memberships. Under those guidelines, you can disregard benefits (like free or discounted admission) in return for an annual payment of $75 or less. Since the cost to the Seneca Park Zoo Society – a 501(c) (3) non-profit – of two Seneca Park Zoo Member T-shirts is insubstantial, no goods or services were provided in exchange for your contribution at our higher levels.

How will I know when to renew my membership?

You will receive a renewal notice one month in advance of your membership’s expiration date. You will also receive reminder notices. No matter when you join or renew, you will always receive one full year of membership.

Are there any early or late hours specific to members?

Members may enter at 9:30 a.m., 30 minutes earlier than non-members. Higher-level members will also receive invitations to exclusive before or after-hours events.

How can I get more information about membership?

Can my group, daycare or organization purchase an annual membership?

No. Annual memberships are for individuals and households only. We do offer group rates on general admission for parties of 10 or more. Call 585-295-7399 to learn more.

Do you offer memberships for adults that require a one-on-one aide who accompanies them?

Yes. Please call (585) 336-7212 to learn more about this option. The individual must be at least 18 years old.

I have a guest feature on my membership. Must I accompany my guests?

Yes. At least one of the named members must accompany guests for all memberships that have guest privileges.

Should I get add a Guest or a Caregiver to my membership?

Guests are unnamed and must be present with at least one of the named members during the visit. The member cards will say “Plus Guest” and cannot be lent out for the guest to use without the member being present. Guests are great for members that want the option to bring a different person with them each visit. You can add one guest ($40) per membership on Individual, Couple, Grandparent and Family levels. Penguin and Otter Circle levels include two guests each visit as part of their levels.

What if I have a caregiver that wants to bring my kids to the Zoo?

Purchase the Family + Caregiver level or Otter Circle Level. Both allow a caregiver to bring the member children to the Zoo without the named cardholders being present. This covers one caregiver per visit. Member card must be presented at time of visit and caregiver must be accompanying the member children. Any additional visitors not covered by the membership would need to pay general admission.

Do you pro-rate memberships or a la carte items?

No. You are expected to pay the full cost. If upgrading, you pay the difference of the original payment and the cost to get to the level you are upgrading into. To add a Guest is $40 at any time.

Can I apply my admissions for the day to a membership purchase?

Yes. You have three days to do this at the Front Gate or by calling the office at (585) 336-7212. The amount spent on admissions that would have been covered by membership will be deducted from the membership price. We will only accept one receipt and not multiple ones from the same day or multiple days. Please have your receipt ready when you go to purchase.

I have a membership and my child is coming on a school visit. Can they get in under the membership?

No. Group and school visits are not considered a general admission visit and are not covered by membership. They are coordinated through the school/organization with our education staff.
