Science plays a central role in realizing Seneca Park Zoo's mission to conserve species diversity and ecosystems. Zoo veterinarians and biologists develop science-based solutions for many challenges we face, saving endangered and threatened species. The behind-the-scenes interdisciplinary scientific achievements of the Zoo range from developing novel reproductive hormone assays in polar bears, to mathematical methods to estimate wild lake sturgeon populations reintroduced to the Genesee River. Click the arrows next to Zoo Science to read about examples of how zoo veterinarians, wildlife biologists, nutritionists, behaviorists, endocrinologists and other specialists use science to save threatened and endangered wildlife.
