For all intents and purposes, summer may be over, but we have a big weekend scheduled just the same! Saturday, September 14th is Elephant Awareness Day. Stop by the Zoo to participate in family-friendly, interactive activities and enter the raffle to win a painting done by one of our resident pachyderms, Genny C. or Lilac. Proceeds will benefit the International Elephant Foundation and the Elephant Managers’ Association. You won’t want to miss the watermelon eating contest – SPOILER – one of the elephants will probably win! Event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 14th and is free with Zoo admission.
Hang out in Africa all day with us – A Step Into Africa will be the venue for one of the wildest birthday parties we’ve ever thrown! Our adult African lions, Chester, Zuri and Asha will be celebrating their 3rd birthdays on Saturday. Sing along to the “Happy Birthday” song (2 p.m.) and watch our playful trio enjoy some special treats. Docents will be on hand with a touch table station, so stop by and learn some interesting “lion facts.” The African lion birthday party is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 14th and is free with Zoo admission.
Were you with us last Friday for the final ZooBrew of 2013? A gorgeous evening provided the backdrop to September’s Wildest Happy Hour in Town and more than 2,800 of you came out to enjoy the Zoo at this wildly popular event. The total attendance for ZooBrew this year topped 10,670 – truly a record-breaking year! We have more in store for next year, so keep an eye on our Web site for dates and details. We’ll see you at ZooBrew in 2014!
