New in 2017, the Homeschool ZooClass Series is a four-session series of classes designed for homeschool families and based on our most popular thematic programs. Projects worked on throughout the four sessions encourage both individual and group learning, while providing students the opportunity to take an extended and interdisciplinary look at the wonders of the Zoo!
Junior Zoo Keeper
Your kids probably love animals as much as we do here at the Zoo, and we expect they will come to the Zoo already knowing so much. Let’s go deeper! In these classes, students will explore different aspects of a zoo keeper’s job, understand how zoos go above and beyond to meet the needs of the animals in their care, and examine the important role that zoos play in species survival and environmental conservation, internationally and in our own backyard. Students will meet a zoo keeper, tour a diet kitchen, observe a feeding plan, and learn to read zoo keepers’ daily schedules. Projects may include designing an animal habitat, developing a health plan for an animal, diagraming an animal’s behavior patterns, or composing a song that teaches others about the needs of an animal in conservation care.
