Wednesday July 29 is International Tiger Day and we’re celebrating all week! Don your best tiger-themed attire and visit Amur tiger Katya at the Zoo! Follow us on social media for special tiger content! [Note due to safety precautions, we will not have live events at the Zoo this week].
Did you know?
Tigers are rapidly losing ground to habitat loss and degradation, poaching, and more. Four of nine subspecies have already disappeared in nature. Amur (like Katya!) , Malayan, and Sumatran tiger populations are thought to have declined to fewer than five hundred each.
Visit the Zoo and play Tiger Tic Tac Toe! Download the game and fill it in as you walk through the Zoo. Also Download this free coloring page! E-mail us a copy of your best tiger at firstname.lastname@example.org! Also, kids will love this fun fact poster!
Support Tiger Conservation
Donate to Tiger conservation and be entered to win a drawing for a painting by Katya. All proceeds will go to the Tiger Conservation Campaign, specifically the Amur Tiger project, which focuses on curbing poaching in the Russian far east and northeast China. Take the Pledge to Shop Smart for Tigers
Many items you buy from the store contain palm oil, such as cereals, candy, shampoos, and toothpaste. Palm oil plantations lead to the destruction of tiger habitats, as well as habitats of many other endangered species. Some companies produce sustainable palm oil that is farmed in an environmentally friendly way. You can Shop Smart for Tigers by choosing items from companies that are using this sustainable palm oil that is deforestation free! Click here to make the pledge today and download the sustainable palm oil app!
