Searching for Biodiversity in Madagascar

Step into the field with Brenna DeAngelis and hear all about her Madagascar adventure! She’ll take you through her exploration of a previously undocumented forest, show photos of the plants and animals she documented, share the surprises and challenges she encountered, and explain how her team here in Rochester works with Centre ValBio to protect these incredible ecosystems.

The History of Orangutans at Seneca Park Zoo

Join Zookeeper Brian Sheets as he reflects on his nearly two decades of caring for Bornean Orangutans at Seneca Park Zoo. He’ll dive into the history and ancestry of these primates, how husbandry practices have evolved in Zoos, and the impact Orangutans have had as ambassadors for their species!

Celebrate Polar Bear Awareness Month with Kelly Ulrich, Director of Education and Visitor Studies, as she recounts her experiences during a week-long immersive training in the polar bear capital of the world!

Birds, Birding, Banding

March 18 | 11 AM - 12 PM

Meet Megan Murante! Megan works with the Zoo’s Programming and Education department. Megan is also a dedicated volunteer for Braddock Bay Bird Observatory and proud “Bird Nerd”! As a volunteer bird bander, Megan will share what it takes to band songbirds, which involves catching them in mist nets, collecting data from each individual, and putting a special band with an identifying serial number on them.  Learn the ins and outs of bird identification, field work, and the fascinating array of birds right here in our neighborhood.
