SUMMARY:Pages with Purpose: Virtual Book Group (February)
DESCRIPTION:A story of hope\, Kinari Webb’s Guardians of Trees\, is a memoir on conservation linking the interconnected crises of inequality\, healthcare access\, and the extinction of wildlife. Both memoir and call to action\, Guardians of Trees is Webb’s personal and galvanizing story that takes readers across the world to Indonesian Borneo and on to founding Health in Harmony\, one of today’s most innovative charitable organizations working to holistically address poverty\, health\, and the environment. \nBook: Guardians of Trees \nAuthor: Kinari Webb \nDate: February 17 \nTime: 7:00 pm EST \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“In Guardians of the Trees\, Kinari Webb tells the story of how she fell in love with a rainforest in Indonesia and how she worked to save it by listening to and involving the local people and improving their lives by providing medical facilities. People\, animals and the environment―all are interconnected… A wonderful book. Kinari Webb’s courage and perspective through a series of setbacks and a life-threatening encounter… fill one with admiration.” \n– Dr. Jane Goodall\, DBE\, Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and U.N. Messenger of Peace \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The strengths of this much needed book are many\, from showing the daily and often dangerous difficulties of research work to the life- and world-changing importance of not ‘educating’ local people but instead collaborating with them in creating economic and medical systems that make habitat protection and restoration part of community life. Perhaps the most important story is Webb’s own\, as she shows that we are all imperfect people capable of creating a more perfect world.” \n—New York Journal of Books  \n\n\n\n\n\nRegister to Attend
