Seneca Park Zoo Travel Program

Seneca Park Zoo's expeditions take guests on unforgettable journeys to some of most beautiful and biodiverse locations in the world. Two trips are planned for 2026; Monarch Butterfly Migration in Mexico and The Best of Madagascar. These two journeys, rooted in the conservation efforts of the Seneca Park Zoo Society, are truly once in a lifetime experiences. 

Mexico Monarch Migration

Dates: February 1-8, 2026

This once-in-a-lifetime safari offers an opportunity to experience the breathtaking spectacle of millions of Monarchs as they gather in the mountains of Michoacán. Each winter, these remarkable creatures embark on a 3,000-mile journey from Canada to Mexico, where they congregate in the oyamel fir forests. The sight of these delicate butterflies filling the sky and clustering in the trees is a profound reminder of nature’s beauty and resilience.

  • Tour historical Mexico City and travel to Michoacan where you’ll visit the San Pablo Malacatepec Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary.
  • Embark on a mesmerizing journey through the Sierra Chincua and El Rosario sancuaries.
  • Boat ride on Lake Patzcuaro with views of the surrounding Purepecha highlands.
  • Walk through the ruins of Yacatas Archeological Site and glimpse the rich history of the Purepecha civilization.
  • Join a walking tour Morelia, the capital of Michoacán, and a UNESCO World Heritage-listed city filled with stunning colonial architecture, rich history, and vibrant culture.
  • Land and Air Transportation in Mexico: All transfers are conducted in private vehicles and safari game drives are conducted in activity vehicles. Air transportation, as described in the itinerary, is provided through chartered and scheduled airlines, and may involve flying in light aircraft.
  • Accommodations and Meals: All your hotel, lodge and tented camp accommodations are based on two people sharing a room. At the permanent camps and lodges, your accommodations will have comfortable beds, flush toilets, hot showers and electricity. We include full-board table d’hôte meals (with some picnic lunches), as shown in the itinerary.
  • Activities: All daily safari activities at the camps and lodges as described in the safari summary.
  • Miscellaneous Fees: All service charges, hotel taxes as imposed by government agencies, and park and reserve entrance fees are included.
  • Pre-departure Preparation: You will receive extensive, personalized information on all aspects of your safari, including health and safety, passports and visas, packing recommendations, electricity, currency and local customs.

Madagascar Expedition

Dates: October 24 - November 3, 2026

This immersive safari will take you deep into one of the most biodiverse and unique destinations on Earth. From lush rainforests to striking coastlines, you will experience firsthand the extraordinary wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, and inspiring conservation efforts that make Madagascar so special.

  • Your adventure begins in the capital city of Antananarivo, where you’ll explore its rich history before venturing to Nosy Manga, a small island sanctuary teeming with biodiversity.
  • In Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, guided rainforest walks will bring you face-to-face with Madagascar’s famous Indri lemurs, Diademed Sifakas, and Parson’s Chameleons, while night walks will reveal the fascinating world of nocturnal wildlife.
  • At Lemur Island, you’ll have the opportunity for close-up encounters while learning about vital conservation efforts.
  • The journey continues south to Ranomafana National Park, home to the rare Golden Bamboo Lemur and Milne-Edwards’ Sifaka.
  • Travel west to Morondava, where the legendary Avenue of the Baobabs offers a stunning sunset spectacle and visit Kirindy Forest Reserve, home to the elusive Fossa, before unwinding along Madagascar’s scenic coastline.
