The Conservation Warrior Award was established by Seneca Park Zoo to honor individuals whose innovation and commitment to conservation have led to lasting, meaningful impact on species survival. This award is also aimed at elevating awareness of the heroic work being undertaken around the world in partnership with the Seneca Park Zoo.
In addition to the title “Conservation Warrior,” the award includes a grant for the recipient to continue their conservation work, and a beautiful glass sculptural piece designed and created by the Corning Museum of Glass.
The award exemplifies Seneca Park Zoo’s mission, inspiring our community to connect with, care for, and conserve wildlife and wild places. The 2025 Conservation Warrior award recipient is Dr. Kinari Webb.

Dr. Kinari Webb is a physician and environmental innovator who links conservation with community health and social justice. Her work began in Borneo, where she saw villagers cutting trees to afford medical care. Determined to change this, she founded Health In Harmony and its Indonesian partner, ASRI, which offers affordable healthcare in exchange for commitments to stop illegal logging. By combining medical care, reforestation, and sustainable livelihoods, Webb’s model has helped communities restore forests, raise incomes, and improve public health.
Central to Webb’s approach is Radical Listening—a practice of building solutions by asking communities what they truly need. This philosophy now guides projects in Madagascar and the Brazilian Amazon, uniting healthcare, education, and ecosystem recovery. Through her books Guardians of the Trees and The Art of Radical Listening, Webb continues to inspire a global shift toward compassion-driven conservation—showing that protecting the planet begins with caring for its people.
A gift in honor of Dr. Kinari Webb, contributing to the Conservation Warrior Award Grant.
