The information below outlines the general guidelines that the Education Department is following to protect the health and safety of our birthday party guests, staff, and animals. As things may change, we will communicate any modifications accordingly.
We have reduced party guest capacities to allow for proper distancing in party areas. The Zoo has also reduced guest capacities and instituted timed entry to allow for distancing throughout the campus.
Yes. We are following state and local guidelines, which currently require face coverings to be worn by everyone over 2 years of age. Face coverings are required throughout the Zoo to protect guests, staff, and the animals, as some species are susceptible to COVID-19. If a birthday party guest cannot wear a face covering for health reasons, a face shield may be worn instead. Party guests should arrive at the Zoo with a clean face covering, but we will have some available if needed.
Party spaces and commonly touched surfaces are cleaned and disinfected before and after each event. Birthday parties are designed with activities that avoid shared resources, and materials are cleaned in between events. Frequent hand washing is also encouraged for participants and staff.
Party guests must remain seated while consuming food or beverage. Guests will be asked to keep their face coverings on until all guests seated at table have been served food/drink by the staff party host.
Restaurant guidelines state that individual tables must include members of the same group, which may be from different households. Following this guideline, we will consider party guests as a single group, so they may be seated together even though they may be from different households.
Store-bought cakes/desserts with ingredients listed may be brought to the party. Guests may sing (while wearing face coverings), however the blowing out of candles is not permitted.
The health and safety of our guests, staff, and animals is our top priority. All Zoo staff and volunteers are screened with a temperature scan upon arriving at the Zoo each day.
Birthday party guests should not come to the Zoo if feeling unwell or experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, sore throat, chills, cough, shortness of breath, body aches, new loss of taste or smell, severe fatigue, loss of appetite, diarrhea). If someone has come into contact with a person who has tested positive or was exposed to an individual who tested positive within 14 days of the scheduled party, they should not come to the Zoo.
If the Zoo needs to cancel a birthday party, a member of the Zoo’s birthday party team will contact the customer with the cancellation information and the following options:
Customers will have ten business days to make a decision and notify the Zoo. If we have not received an answer after ten business days from our initial contact, the deposit paid will be converted to a donation, and the customer will receive a letter confirming the tax-deductible contribution.
